24-Hour News Summary
Péter Magyar has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Hungary, marking the end of the Viktor Orbán era. During a historic ceremony at the Parliament building, he promised to serve the people and apologized to those who were treated unfairly in the past. To show a fresh start, leaders placed the European Union flag back on the building for the first time in 12 years. Large crowds filled Kossuth Square to celebrate the beginning of what many call a new era for the country.
In local city news, there have been changes in the leadership of some neighborhoods. The deputy mayor of the 12th district resigned from her position this week. Travel around the capital was also difficult due to major traffic issues. Eight cars were involved in a crash on the M7 motorway, and a truck caught fire on the M5, causing long delays for people driving in and out of the city.
Budapest continues to be a popular spot for celebrities, as actress Hunter Schafer was recently seen enjoying a bowl of traditional goulash at a local restaurant. Meanwhile, the new Parliament is already busy with a record number of new members who are starting to work on regime changes and new laws for the future.
