24-Hour News Summary
Today is a very important day in Budapest as people go to the polls to vote for their next government. There has been a record high number of people showing up to cast their ballots. In Budapest specifically, voter participation increased by about two-thirds compared to previous elections. This means many more citizens are taking part in deciding the country's future. Experts say this high turnout makes it a very significant event for the city and the nation.
The main political leaders also cast their ballots today. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told reporters he is confident and expects to win. His biggest rival, Péter Magyar, also cast his vote this morning. Magyar announced that if his party wins, they want to limit how many times someone can be the leader to just two terms. Both leaders spent the day encouraging people to visit voting stations before they close.
In other news from the capital, a video was released showing a serious car accident that happened on a busy road. A car was caught on camera driving at a very high speed before it crashed on the Váci út overpass. Because of the election, the streets in Budapest are very crowded, and drivers are being reminded to be extra careful.
