This list covers many of the best-known statues, but Kolodko's work is not limited to the streets of Budapest. His sculptures have also been featured in exhibitions and galleries throughout Hungary.

How They Are Made

Mr. Kolodko creates his mini-sculptures from bronze and spends a significant amount of time visualizing each figure and its surroundings before beginning the design process. Most of his statues are no bigger than a clenched fist.

He understands that the location and figure of his artwork are equally important for the right storytelling. By doing so, he ensures that his mini-sculptures are perfectly balanced and harmonize beautifully with their surroundings.

Who is the Artist?

Mykhailo Kolodko, also known as Kolodko Mihály in Hungary, was born in Uzhhorod, Ukraine on May 17, 1978. He is a Ukrainian citizen with Hungarian roots. He graduated from the Lviv National Academy of Arts in 2002 and first moved to Hungary in 2016, where he now resides with his family.

He originally trained as a monumental sculptor, but found his true calling in creating delightful miniature guerrilla sculptures that can be found throughout Budapest. He placed his very first mini-statue, a worm named Főkukac, on the banks of the Danube in 2016.

Fun Fact!

Did you know that one of Kolodko Mihály's favorite ways to learn Hungarian when he moved to Hungary was by watching traditional Hungarian cartoons? His favorite cartoon was "A Nagy Ho-ho-ho Horgász" (The Big Ho-Ho Angler), which featured a happy worm as the main character. This lovable worm acted as the inspiration for his very first mini-statue in Budapest, which now has an exact copy in Uzhhorod, Ukraine.
